Mumbai 7/11: Second Thought...

The last 6-7 hrs since I posted the last article (below)...I can't help but notice and then compare the before - after scenarios. There is not one thing I can think of that people did out of the usual today other than enquire if the other one reached home on time or collectively express disgust and anger over the incident (me included) etc. etc. Everything was just the same. The dosa guy infront of TCS still served his customers with the same speed, my colleagues still took their regular smoking breaks, I chatted up on Yahoo! with a few close friends..and so on. Everything was just the same. The only so-called difference was the change in topic. Instead of the FIFA World Cup...its now the 7/11 blasts. 7/11...almost as if its in - vogue to name terror attacks by sexing up the dates a bit!

Rajdeep Sardesai, however, took the cake when it came to being out of line with the nature and gravity of the tragedy. The chap actually had the nerve to sit and smile one of his impish ones and pass comments about irrelevant and funny-to-only-him kind of jokes. Quite a shame considering the seniority of the media man if nothing else. The field reporters were not far behind. Often being requested...ordered and eventually pushed aside because their cameras were hindering relief work. But how can we complain? We only have made "Breaking News" our favorite show...no matter what the news channel. Mr. Rajdeep kept following his "team" all over Mumbai...covering the story. And that's what he made yesterday evening's events...just another STORY! Great job sir!

When I hit Google News a few mts back...there were two news items side by side, one was how Mumbai was showing its classic fight-back spirit and getting back in the groove and the article right next to it said about how Israel was contemplating a massive operation to rescue two of its soldiers. I repeat... to rescue TWO of its soldiers. We call meetings, talk about human rights, talk about negotiations, we exchange hostages for terrorists, let murderers go free because we mess up the investigations. Above all we take pride in calling ourselves TOLERANT. A great way to curtain the fact that a country that is home to one sixth of the humanity has no balls! How in the heaven's name can someone even dare to execute to perfection such an act and then we go on to claim that Mumbai has "limped back to normalcy"? Is it because as Shobha De once said that we forget too easily? Or is it because any pain isn't really ours till there isn't any blood on us? Or without playing with words anymore…we simply don’t care till its our leg that got blown away...

I called it resilience a few hours back. Now I can't think of any other word but...

...Indifference !!!

i wonder if its so much indifference as our inability to do anything about it. d ones who can do something bout dis seem to care 2 hoots and seriously, what can you and i do, but sit back and express anguish? ( or mayb, even dis resignation, of sittin back and expressing anguish is somethin we have fooled ourselves into believing!)
and really, what does the rest of the world seem to care? with TV channels fightin it out with each other to telecast gory details, and the shockin rate at which we lap it up, we have bcome so immune to all des blasts and killings. ppl jus brush it aside and move on....
wat u said bout ur own leg being blown away? very true! yest's blast is prolly a thing of d past for u and me, but there are 200 odd families out der, for whom life will never be the same again...........

well to compalin about media is to complain about our basic means of connections to things happening to things in this world..
well i am not justifying their act.. its quite funny acyually when incidents like this occur we the educated class are the 1st to complain about various news channels and the reporters n jour.
but why does it not strike us thru out the year more than their unsympathetic means of reporting..
its the lack of interestthey will show to the issue few days later.. tell me what do we know about tsunami its jus seems to vanish or kashmor earthquake for that matter.. but thru all this anger and discomfort we should aslo try to see that may be these reporters may have lost some1 too but it is their job.. yes they could speak in "hindi" when interviewing locals.. (eg: NDTV).. and be a lil more sensative with their questions

True...And am personally all for the ALMIGHTY FREE PRESS!

...But I still stand by my words about the stunts Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai was pulling on PRIME TIME NEWS!

Sorry folks and mumbaikars...bombay is not resilient, not even indifferent..thats too mild..its insular!!!!
I gradually begin to see little difference between the sensational punjab kesari, aaj tak and star news (the mai baap of it all), times now and NDTV!!!

I feel u r wrong

but the statements u make draw up a conclusion and suport what u intend to say.

Situations like Israel saving two soldiers can be put back to poor light as to how they played with human values in their own country by engaging into permenant trouble ... be it bomb blasts.. be it terror spread. Every Global Citizen wud vouch that a HUMAN being is more safe in India than Israel.
US tried saving people on spaceships... india tried saving people on Aeroplans ( the handling of terrorists u were mentioning).

Yes the country has no balls.. ! and no peace lving country wud ever dare to. ! ! then what si the diff btw the socialist.. and the communist form of gvots thats ruled the past.

Russuans had balls ! ! what did the people russia gain.. ! ! did the poverty improve.... Pakistan has Balls ( to attack and do whatever it feels)... Is the country doing well in literacy.

india is a classic model in which people aspire for peace... atleats the sensible ones. and hence explaining the indifference.

were there communal riots... no ! ! why.. becoz people felt it is a the job of a vested few who like to provoke... and hence to keep up the peace... nobody gets instigated.

So... I feel indifference to the concept of Reactivesness is not manadatory for peace loving people...

I may stand corrected....
